Labor Day Camping Trip to Mont Orford National Park

For the past year or so we have talked about going up to Quebec for a camping weekend and we made it for Labor Day!  We stayed at Mont Orford National Park and had such a great time.  The night we arrived we stayed in a nearby hotel because our campsite was not available until Sunday.  I think we do not stay in hotels often enough these days because the girls thought the hotel room was the best thing, especially the big tub in the bathroom!  When our camping trip began, the first day we hiked to the top of Mont Orford, which is a ski resort.  The next day went canoeing, picnicking and swimming and the final day was spent enjoying local attractions.

Sitting on the patio of the hotel right after we arrived.

The view from the patio.

The base lodge at Mont Orford.

Our first snack stop.

We were moving a bit on the slow freight when we started.  Marin wanted to be in the backpack so she had a lift for a little while.

Another snack about halfway up the mountain.  The hike was 4k each direction, which is about 2.5 miles.

A new favorite camping snack: crackers, turkey pepperoni and monterey jack cheese.

Charlotte's turn to walk.

Taking a rest at the top.

Too bad the lift wasn't running!

Marin scrambled up the back side of this outcrop.

Helping Daddy set up the tent.

We are official "car campers"!!  We are now the proud owners of a screen canopy.

Enjoying the fire before dinner.

Charlotte hard at working making pizza dough.

That looks like a pretty good crust!

A little fliparoo during the wait for each pizza (each one took about 30 minutes!)

Our first attempt at GF camping pizza.

Stoking the fire for breakfast.

Marin enjoying a little zucchini bread before pancakes.

Little bakers hard at work making pancakes.

The beach on Lake Stukely was really busy!

Out for our first family canoe ride.

Pulled up on shore for a our lunch break.

Checking out a little stick worm.

Happy picnickers!

Looking good Daddy.

It's hard to tell from this picture but Charlotte is asleep holding the gunnel.  She would not lay down!!

Working together to take care of "rock turtle".

Checking out the chickens at a local farm.

A view of the pumpkin fields at the farm.

They make sunflower oil at the farm too.

They even had a big sand pit!

Bringing in our haul.

Enjoying a local wine tasting.

Downtown Magog

Owl's Bread Boulangerie had a sign in the window that they make GF bread on Wednesdays!  We will need to take a trek back tomorrow.

Pesto with Wine - my kind of camping.  I am not sure I will ever be able to go back to backcountry again!!

This bold racoon started visiting our site and our neighbors, before it was even dark, looking for dinner.

Marshmallow time

So we made the trip back to Owl's Bread on our way home...this little loaf weighed about 2 pounds and was so dense we could not even eat it.  Oh well...

Back home!!
