Barnyard Critter Days

A few weeks ago we had the great opportunity to visit the Agricultural Heritage site in Longmont where Barnyard Critter Days were taking place. We are often so removed from farms and animals and where our food comes from that this was a super experience for the kids and they loved it.

Watching a bee hive in action

Nice goat

Marin was not so sure she liked "Sky" being so close to her.

Trying out a real tractor.

Charlotte needed to stretch to reach the wheel.

Watching a blacksmith at work making brands that would be used on cattle.

The girls each had the opportunity to give him directions on what shapes to use and how to put them together to make their own brands. Standing back from the smoke.

The bottom brand on the left is Charlotte's  brand and Marin's is on the bottom right. The girls were surprisingly really into this!!

Out for a wagon ride behind these two beautiful horses.

Hard at work making animal shaped name tags. Charlotte chose a pig and Marin a cow.

A simulator ride of a real tractor.

Miniature horses - we saw them get their hooves trimmed.

Watching and helping wash wool, just shorn from a sheep, in clean water. The lanolin smell left on their hands was impressively strong!
