Camping Trip #1 2012

Backcountry camping was such a big part of Pete's and my life before we had kids. Since the girls were born we have been car camping exactly once each year.  This year is going to be the turning point!  We just bought a new Marmot Limelight 4 person tent, and we are ready to go!  Our first trip was to New Hampshire to Mount Monadnock, and it was a success.  As the girls have gotten older they have enjoyed camping more and more and the hiking was the highlight for Marin.  Charlotte loved it too although she had to be in the carrier for much of the hike.

Testing out the tent in the backyard.

Our campsite.

Making dinner right after we arrived at camp.

Mommy had very big eyes to make this huge plate of nachos, but it was no problem to finish it!

Watching a toad hop by.

Can you see him?

Helping Daddy get the first started.  We usually cook all of our meals over the fire when we car camp, but to expedite dinner on night one we used the pocket rocket.  The fire was reserved for marshmallows.

Time for the breakfast fire.

Who says you can't have marshmallows before breakfast.

Getting the pan ready for bacon.

Doing a little exploring during the beginning of our hike.

Time for a rest and a snack.

Sleeping Charlotte.

A baby squirrel.

Such a big girl hiking!

A happy, dirty girl.

Starting to get a glimpse of the views.

It was a very steep climb in places.

The highest point is the summit.

Did I mention this was a crazy, busy hike.  This was the most crowded mountain we have ever climbed!!  It does not get the title of most climbed mountain in the US for nothing.

Our big girl on the summit after a hard climb!

Just a few people...

Well deserved lunch.

Ice cream in Peterborough after the hike.

There was a big storm right after we came down the mountain.  Marin and Charlotte enjoyed the puddles at the ice cream shop.

Back in camp getting ready for dinner.

Enjoying a hug and a homebrew after a busy day.

That looks like one good hot dog on homemade fire-toasted bread.

Good morning!

Enjoying the town beach located across from the campground before we hit the road.
